The K31 is noted for its straight-pull action, meaning that the bolt is pulled directly back, then pushed forward to cycle the action between shots, rather than being turned and pulled back and forth, as in Mauser pattern rifles such as the K98k.

I mis-spoke ...the small ring Mauser's are the '91 , '93 , '95 and other varients . They all cock the firing pin upon closing the chamber on the round to be fired .

Gotta 98 Mauser ? There are two types , large and small ring . The guns that cock on the closing of the bolt are small rings , and have ONLY two lugs ...The large ring '98 Mauser , has a third safety lug toward the rear of the bolt , and cocks the firing pin as you open the bolt . As far as the K31 , it was the Sig Sauer / FN H&K / of it's day ... but was never battle proven . That's a good thing for us . A surplus rifle that is accurate to 500m w/ iron sights for less than $200 ? -JKM

GP11 is getting rarer and rarer every day. Last I checked it's still available from several places online, but price is slowly starting to rise. Expect to pay about $10-15/20rounds.

i own a k31. it is amazing when it comes to accuracy. 1 inch groups at 100 yards with iron sights and gp11 surplus ammo.

The K31 is not a Schmidt Ruben design, it was based off of the earlier designs but was actuauly designed by a government commission. These guys sound like morons, MANY rifles have two forward locking lugs such as the k98, the 1903 and huge numbers of hunting rifles. The ross rifle was one of the WORST straight pull designs of all time it was not successful at all. Thats why the canadian switched the no1 mk3 during ww1. The k31 is an awesome design but these two know nothing at all about it
