YOU'RE looking at Dodge's answer to the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Nissan GTR, Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and Lotus Exige S.Setting a new lap record of ***** 7:22 *****, it is the fastest production car to ever lap the Nürburgring! There's no denying the sheer power and tenacious handling of this car, or the drivers skill; however it's debatable if an even faster lap time could've been achieved without constantly bouncing off the rev limiter!Powered by an 8.4 Liter V-10, this Viper is capable of devouring 0-60 MPH in 3.6 seconds (est.) Base price is set at $98,110 USD.MORE information on the 2009 Viper ACR can be found here: http://www.motortrend.com/road...

yeah the viiper is a niiice car i definetly wouldnt mind having it. of course a gtr porsche m5 would also be a good choice. all those cars including the viper are great performance machines in their own way

With a good driver..... This car would have shaved another 5 seconds off it's time at least. All hail to the king........At least until the arrow gets to the ring....

yea but man thats what makes the viper the viper, the fact that a radio and a/c are options and theres no cupholders, its pure performance

Pretty sure he hit the fuel cut off about five hundred times.

I was referring to the fact that it is a traditional manual with a clutch pedal, which is most likely slower than the Gallardo's shifting.

"It has a slow shift" Please explain?
torquemaster (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
look at it this way- its really not the engine torque, but the force at the wheels in thousands of pounds for a given gear. The audi R10 diesel race car is definitely a much faster race car than it's competition. in a short geared race car it takes more time to shift (frequently) and is subject to more human interaction, thus potential for more mistakes/working harder. powerband is so broad with the diesel car that he simply shifts once out of the apex and powers on by.
torquemaster (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
yep, i was talkin in general, citing the z06/lambo. i understand the higher mechanical advantage/high rpm thing, but the R10 specs out like 800+ft lbs torque at just 5k rpms (i think). with 800hp/800tq (crossover point) that has to have taller/wider ratios to get it topping out past 180~200mph range. and it absolutely beats down the competition running their sky high gears/rpms. when it first came out everyone was scratching their heads in doubt.
KARASAWA40 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
I don't think the R10 uses gears any longer than other car, but I'm not certain off the top of my head.I do know that your engine/gearing set up isn't really that practical though. No matter how much torque you have, wide gears will just cause you to lose more, and if you have fast shifts (for example paddle shift) long gearing becomes pretty pointless in any case because it gives almost no advantages. The last ACR tested by R&T brought complaints on wide gearing since it slowed it down a lot.
KARASAWA40 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
The Gallardo and Z06 are very different though. The Gallardo wouldn't perform well with short gearing, has 4WD so it most likely isn't making as much power as the Vette at the wheels, and the Z06 has a slow shift, which would hurt it with close gears in a drag race. It's like I said before, but the original point was whether short gearing would help the ACR on a track since it's not a drag car, or were you talking more in general?
