It was Friday, one week from the homecoming dance, & Deanna was on a mission to get Alyse a date.]D: Ok, Martin Velsik. [She pointed over to one of the smaller guys at the jock table.]A: Deanna, I told you. I'll find a date.D: Well, I'm sure you would have if you werenÂ’t so uncomfortable around a certain someone now.A: What are you taking about?D: I'm talking about the fact that since Alex threatened you to stay away from Bret yesterday, you won't give him the time of day. A: I do not.D: Prove it. Here he comes. [She stuffed her mouth with cheetos so she couldn't say anything else. Then, Bret was right beside her, pulling up a chair, & she felt very helpless & alone.]B: Hey Alyse.A: Um...hi. [She blushed when she looked up & he was staring right at her. It didn't mean he liked her, he was only being polite & looking at the person he was talking to, right?]B: So, are you going to homecoming?A: Um...I don't know. Except her plans changed when she walked into her apartment & was tackled by Cassie.]A: Cassie! What are you doing here?C: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! [She smiled so big Alyse worried her face might break.]A: Thank you, but how are you here?C: Well, we only had a half day today, some teacher meeting thing, so my mom took the day off work & we drove up here to see you! I called your mom, she's cool with everything. My mom went to see her at work so they could catch up. & WeÂ’re staying the weekend here with you guys.A: Wow, that's great! C: Mhm! He's tall & has these bright blue eyes that shine right through his hair that's about yay long [She pointed to her eye line.] & heÂ’s nice, & talented. HeÂ’s here for art. &... So what are you gonna wear? We'll go shopping tomorrow, & I'll help you pick out a dress, & shoes, & we'll get you a hair appointment, &-A: Wait, I didn't say yes.C: What? Are you crazy? This guy sounds perfect!! What's the problem?A: I just...I don't know. I feel like...C: You're not scared of this Alex girl, are you?A: Oh no way. Actually-[She was cut off but her phone. The ringtone, "Just Friends," made Cassie remember the real reason Alyse wouldn't go out with another guy.
