the movie depicted street children who are homeless and have gathered from various corners of india trying to survive in mumbai,it has a desperate milieu but there is an optimisim in the bleakest prospect as the protagonists made up of pimps ,prostitutes ,drugaddicts ,dealers ,corrupt cops and exploited kids still are in touch with an inner happiness and hope ,this bright side seperates the desolation of poverty shown in africa and latin america where everything is doomed whereas the indians being a resilient and flexible people have learnt to live happily even when dirt poor -their aspirations and dreams are different and within their grasp and content is the man who seeks contentment rather then mere satisfaction .the kids here work at a rich wedding reception enjoying the experience and having a feast and then late at night with underpaid wages make home when confronted by the horrendous police patrol -a scintillating scene and brilliantly etched too.mira nair was a harvard grad but she has a deep understanding of the street people and the psyche is bought out very maturely
